Benefits
The Fringe Benefits Center, under the direction of Charlie Warren, works to educate members on the importance, value and proper use of their Trust Fund Benefits. They strive to make benefit services more accessible and benefit information easier to understand for current and prospective members.
Local 3 members are covered by a variety of benefit plans, including Health & Welfare Trust Funds, Pension Trust Fund, Annuity Funds and Vacation Pay Plans. Each one has specific rules and regulations, which may require an explanation to the members. This includes benefit descriptions, how to file claims, how to use the union pharmacy for prescriptions and how to contact the proper Trust Fund office or department.
In addition to helping members, Fringe Benefits Center works closely with the Local 3 officers, district offices, Trust Fund staff, legal counsel and consultants. Together, they assist with outreach, long- term planning, plan design development, education and political positions related to the benefit programs.
Representatives from the department attend district meetings and retirees meetings, to answer questions and keep in touch with the membership. Other meetings are scheduled for new members and apprentices. Fringe Benefits Center also works with the Organizing Department to meet with new members after first contracts are ratified. They review procedures to assure the timely Trust Fund recording of eligibility for new employees.
