Financial Secretary Jim Sullivan is a Utah native and second-generation Operating Engineer. After joining the industry in Las Vegas in August 1989 as a heavy-duty repairman (HDR), he transferred into Local 3 from Local 12 in July 1990.
Sullivan immediately headed to work in Hawaii on the H-3 project. Upon its completion, he returned to Utah and continued steady work for the next eight years as an HDR for employers, including W. W. Clyde & Company and Granite Construction.
His initial work on behalf of the Local 3 membership began with his participation and desire to serve on the Utah District 12 Grievance Committee from 1996 to 1999. On April 1, 1999, he accepted an invitation from the business manager to join the Local 3 staff as a business agent.
Sullivan was promoted to district representative of Utah District 12 on May 7, 2001. In 2002, he was appointed special representative over Wyoming and South Dakota through April 2004 and was appointed a Local 3 auditor in 2003.
He is a 2005 graduate of the Harvard Trade Union Program.
